Tree Service in Emmaus, PA

Emmaus at a glance

Emmaus is a borough of 11,652 people (2020), about 5 miles south of Allentown at the foot of South Mountain. Money magazine named it one of the best places to live in the country in 2007 and 2009.

What that means for your trees

Emmaus has tree-lined streets, older homes and wooded hillsides. Big trees over narrow lots need regular pruning and occasional careful removals; see tree removal. Many homes sit on hillside streets below South Mountain, where removal crews work on slopes and often lower wood carefully rather than dropping it.

Hillside lots

Trees on slopes can lean as soil shifts. Have leaning trees checked. Big oaks on wooded lots near the mountain are best pruned in the dormant season to lower the risk of oak wilt.

A Moravian village

German Protestant farmers settled here in the early 1700s, and in 1741 Sebastian Heinrich Knauss and Jacob Ehrenhardt gave the land to the Moravian Church to create a closed faith-based village, first called Salzburg and founded as Emmaus in 1759. The borough still has historic buildings and old trees from its early centuries. Older trees near historic homes may be worth saving with cabling and pruning rather than removal; see cabling and bracing.
